Illustration Friday : Savour

So, there's no picture for this this week. I like to try and do something different with it but all I've come up with so far is the joke about how you make a sausage roll. Long story short, I'm not going to draw a sausage. So yeah, that's me stumped.

Kathleen Vance - Active

I wouldn't spend all that time doing a picture I like without also making something fun to go along with it. Here's the picture of Kat in interactive form.

How does it work? Click an area to change it to a random colour, click the signature twice to reset if you want to start again.

Kathleen Vance - Static

Here's my version of a picture drawn by Jolly Jack. I won't post the original because of IP and stuff, but here's the various stages leading to the final one.

1. Blackline stage

2. Grade stage

3. Block colour stage

4. Final Version

Hopefully JJ likes it, and you too of course.

See also Jolly Jack's Collected Curios and his Deviant Art page for more good stuff.

Elphaba : Start to Finish

I thought it might be fun to keep a record of every step in the making of one image. Because it's me it won't take too many, so let's have a look.

Sketchbook pencil outline

Sketchbook inks.

Scanned photoshop cleanup pass.

Flash outline refine pass.

Final coloured image.

Fun with Chaos, Part 2

Here's another toy using chaos as its engine.

Clicking on any part of the shape will randomly change the colour.

Just to prove the theory, there are 10 copies of the same counter on the bottom. See how they're all doing their own thing?

Fun with Chaos, Part 1

What you see here is the first part of my experiments with using a random number generator.

There are two buttons at the bottom of the box which add a randomly placed repeating droplet to the image. While there is no limit to the number you can add, It will cause massive slowdown at high numbers so watch out for it. Also I haven't worked put how to get it to clear so you'll have to reload the page if you want to start again.

Tea Time

Here's two versions of my instructional quickie.

A hot cup is a happy cup.

Here's what the cup would look like if it was embossed onto it.
I know I drew it, but I'd want to own one.

Sketchbook Adventure

Let's follow another of my exciting failures to draw well.

Yeah, so eye shape didn't go all that well.

This is slightly closer to something usable combined with an idea for facial shape.

It's interesting if you look at where you would place the profile in relation to the lips, but otherwise I think I went off the rails here.

Clearly this isn't very good, but there's something to it. Inking it would probably push it over the edge. Best leave it alone.

No clue what I was thinking.

Which somehow got me here. I may well develop this one further.

There you go then, my sketchbook is a hit or miss affair at best.

Journey Preview

Lack of reliable internet aside, I'm super psyched for Journey so it'll be the subject of my next animation, maybe more. Here's a preview.

Illustration Friday : Burning

Right now my Flash is down, so while I teach myself how to use Illustrator I'll have to go with this.
